About Dr. Matt Segar

I am a cardiac electrophysiology fellow at the Texas Heart Institute where I also completed my cardiology fellowship. I graduated from Internal Medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center and received my medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. I also graduated with a degree in computer science with Honors from Bucknell University and a Masters of Science in Bioinformatics from Indiana University.

My research sits at the intersection of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cardiovascular medicine. I have authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and two books, and I am best known as the developer of the WATCH-DM Risk Score, a validated clinical prediction tool now used in practice and guidelines.

Outside of clinical and academic work, I am a healthcare entrepreneur focused on building technology that solves real problems in medicine. I co-founded ReCODE Medical, an AI-powered platform for medical procedure coding — which was recently acquired. I am currently building Claripulse, a post-market surveillance platform for medical devices. I also hold Epic certifications in data analytics and physician builder, have conducted EHR-based clinical trials, and bring a hands-on approach to health data infrastructure, clinical decision support, and applied AI in medicine.
